Title: $1,000 Square Dance Nut Cake
Ingredients: 1 Servings
Sift together:
1 2/3 Cup Pillsbury flour
2 Tsp Baking powder
1/2 Tsp Salt
1 Cup Sugar
Add:
1/2 Cup Soft butter
Half shortening may be used)
2/3 Cup Milk
Beat for 2 minutes then add
3 Egg whites unbeaten
1/2 Tsp Lemon extract
And beat for 2 minutes then
Blend in 1/2 cup chp walnuts
Checkerboard frosting:
Combine
1 Tbl milk, Warm
2 Tbl butter, Melted
2 1/4 Cup Confectioners sugar
1 Egg yolk
1/2 Tsp Vanilla
Beat until smooth and creamy

Add:
1 chocolate and, Melted
1 Tbl Milk
To 1/3 of the frosting.
The rest leave plain.
Method of Preparation: Follow the directions for mixing cake. Pour into a well greasedand lightly floured 8 x 8 x 2 pan. Bake 350 40-50 minutes. Cool follow the directions for putting together. Best of class senior contest--1950 Pillsbury Cookoff. This is a simple cake that looks fancy. All you do is cut the nut loaf cake into four squares. You frost with white frosting (2) and the other 2 with chocolate--Then arrange them checkerboard fashion and sprinkle nuts over the top. It is a quick mix variation. |
